Best Restaurants in Marathon FL

The Florida Keys are our "go to" place to relax, enjoy the water and eat great seafood. Driving in from Miami, the Florida Keys are a quick 1-3 hours away, depending on how far you want to go. Marathon is a quiet, middle of the drive stop to have a nice bite to eat or stay and enjoy the outdoors. If you are looking for the best restaurants in Marathon FL, check these out:

Keys Fisheries

This is hands down my favorite restaurant in all of the Florida Keys! It is also Marathon's most popular. Their fish, shrimp, conch, lobster and stone crabs are as fresh as fresh gets (they are a Whole Foods seafood supplier)!

You order at a counter (sometimes they don't even ask you for your name and ask for a favorite movie or character), and then take a seat at one of the many open air waterfront picnic tables. There are plenty of fans to keep you cool and it is always fun to watch the tarpon close to the dock (my kids' favorite) and the boats coming in too. In addition, Keys Fisheries also has a retail market that you can grab fresh or frozen seafood and spices and then cook it back at your place.

They are famous for their lobster reuben (although I have personally not tried it) and stone crabs (in season - which I have eaten plenty). My favorite thing to order however is the fried hogfish. If you like white fish, this is even better than a snapper or yellow tail. I also recommend ordering a stone crab soup, when available, and I love their fried conch appetizer too.

All in all, this is my pick for the best restaurant in Marathon FL!

Brutus Seafood

I recently discovered this little gem. It is a great stop for lunch when driving on a road trip to Key West or just staying in Marathon. They have a fresh catch of the day and you can pretty much have it however you like with a side choice of french fries, cole slaw, potato salad or cold bean salad. The indoor area is small (with maybe 5 or so tables), and the outdoor tiki area has ample seating and has fans blowing cool air.

I was very pleased with my fresh fried fish and tried the blackened and grilled versions. They too were equally as delicious. I only have one gripe with this place...the hours! They are only open from 11-5 PM (closed on Sundays), which means that they are only available for lunch. They do have a fish market where you can buy some of their fresh fish. This means that you could technically order it fresh and cook it for dinner or request take out before 5 PM and eat it later. However, this does not demote the quality of the food I tried. That is why I still rank it as one of the best restaurants in Marathon FL.

Lazy Days Marathon

Lazy Days has 3 restaurants in the Florida Keys. This one in Marathon, another in Islamorada, and one in Key Largo. They are all excellent! We have eaten here a couple of times, and have even done it from our boat. This is one of the neat things down in the Florida Keys. Some restaurants have open space for boaters to dock and eat.

The restaurant itself has an ample selection of seafood, pastas, sandwiches and desserts. Their fish is also very fresh (as expected in the Florida Keys). They are definitely the restaurant that has the most menu selection of all my choices for best restaurants in Marathon FL. Whether you dock your boat or sit looking at the Atlantic Ocean, Lazy Days Marathon is a top pick for best restaurant in Marathon FL.

Sweet Savannah's

The best ice cream in Marathon is here! This place not only has adorable decor, but a fantastic selection of ice cream, cones, cookies, cupcakes and more... It is our "go to" dessert spot in Marathon FL. Try it, you won't be disappointed!
