Visiting Busch Gardens Williamsburg with Kids

Updated: Sep 26, 2018

The DQ's are a theme park loving family! We try to plan a visit to a theme park at least once a year. We were on a road trip from Baltimore and Colonial Williamsburg, so we made sure to set aside a day for Busch Gardens. Let me tell you, that it was a lot better than we expected! Here's why we enjoyed visiting Busch Gardens Williamsburg with kids...

Visiting Busch Gardens williamsburg with kids

First of all, the theming and landscaping are excellent. Of all the parks we have been to (15 so far), this one is, by far, the most scenic. Once you enter the gates, you are transported into the "Countries of Europe". In addition, the landscape of the park is stunning (there are trees and rivers everywhere you turn).

The first country after the entrance gates is Britain. Again, the theming is spectacular. We couldn't help but take pictures! In addition, here are many bridges to cross over, and when you enter a country (like Ireland or Germany below), you feel like you are actually there. Kudos to Busch Gardens!

Even the rides carry the theme well. I was so impressed with the entrance of each ride. It really helps the customer "buy in" to the theme or walking around in Europe. See below two of the rides in Norway and Italy.

Now the best part about visiting Busch Gardens with kids are... the rides! The roller coasters here are top notch! They had all types and all thrill levels, which is perfect for our family. My husband and son are thrill seekers. I am somewhat in the middle, and my daughter likes things "mild". They had something for everyone! There are even carnival style rides which we did not expect.

The food was also delicious and not too crazy in price. We got our tickets ahead of time on Groupon and saved $8 per person. You can also buy the parking in advance if you'd like. The one thing I always recommend when you are traveling to a theme park is GET THERE WHEN IT OPENS! It saves you so much time.

All in all, it was a terrific day filled with screams, laughter, and good old-fashioned family fun. I highly recommend visiting Busch Gardens Williamsburg with kids if you are in the Virginia/Maryland area or nearby visiting Colonial Williamsburg.

You had me at countries of Europe!! Epcot at Disney World has the same idea but it looks to me like Busch Gardens did an even better job at portraying country themes!
